I heard bout someone saying that on pubcon, cutts said that google doesn't give much importance on directory links.

I read a post somewhere saying buying or selling links for pagerank is considered spam and they may be filtered out.

any comments.

Links are merely valuable only when they are published on page that will be discovered by many people or found by the spider bot.

I don't think so they are bad. If you maintain them and avoid crap links or spam links from entering into the directory then directories can be a valuable resource. It's just that people prefer google over directories.

Google consider Buy sell links as spam and i myself experienced it.

I'm maintaining my Friends blog and i was making only paid posts and i never posted a normal post.

That inflicted on my Pagerank it got gradually reduced.
